Varnish measures pressure and vibrations. The Fraunhofer institute has a
press release about a varnish that measures pressure and vibrations: "Despite the use of computer simulation, wind tunnel testing is still required to measure pressure changes and airflow speeds on the surfaces of new aircraft and automobile prototypes. Such testing is now done less with smoke visualization and threads but more frequently with high-tech sensors which have the least influence on air flows. "
As the forthcoming German issue of the MIT Technology Review points out, the researchers at Fraunhofer Institue work on a sphere covered with their varnish as a sort of computer touchpad. Might be interesting for tangible interfaces ...

The Univeral Plannar Manipulator is a table with actuators that can move objects to a given position on the table. Designed for industrial purposes and rather obtrusive than disappearing - but still interesting. (Thanks to Tara Matthews.)
The Spray Computer Tutorial at Percom 2003 has ideas about an interesting paradigme for ubicomp applications.
