Paul Rayson

I am director of the UCREL research centre and a lecturer in the Computing Department, in the Infolab21 building at Lancaster University in Lancaster, UK. I am co-director of The Research Engine.

New stuff:

• This week I've been mostly reading ...
• I co-edit the Corpora Journal published by Edinburgh University Press. Issue 4:2 has now been published. Papers from issue 5:1 are currently being edited.
• ICAME Journal published by Aksis (Bergen, Norway); printed and distributed by UCREL. Issue 33 was published and posted to subscribers in May 2009 following delivery from the printers.
• LRE Journal special issue on Multiword expressions: All the papers have now appeared in the online first section of the journal website.
• Along with Mark Davies (Brigham Young University) I co-edit the Routledge Frequency Dictionaries Series

• I'm currently supervising four students: Alistair Baron (spelling variation in historical corpora), Eddie Bell (joint with Maths and Stats, co-supervised with Damon Berridge), Katharina MacInnes and Sheryl Prentice (both joint with Psychology, co-supervised with Paul Taylor).
• Two of my students have passed their vivas: Ricardo Gacitua (OntoLancs: an evaluation framework for ontology learning by ensemble methods) and Patrick Tschorn (Incremental inductive logic programming for learning from annotated corpora)

• Variant spellings: in Early Modern English in particular
• Extending a semantic annotation tool for research on metaphor in discourse: funded by the British Academy.
