Michael Mackay is a post-doctoral Research Associate at Lancaster University having completed a PhD with Cisco Case sponsorship in 2005. His thesis research centred on IPv6 transitioning and all aspects relating to the crucial co-existence period between IPv4 and IPv6 in the Internet. This included looking in detail at the network management and service provision aspects of supporting complex transitioning infrastructures in large sites and networks. From September 2002 until July 2005 Michael was also involved in the IST 6NET Project, contributing to Lancaster’s WP2 (IPv6 transitioning) work. From July 2005 until July 2006 his focus shifted towards IP Mobility and he was funded through the EPSRC Platform Grant researching advanced concepts of Mobile IPv6, Network Mobility and Intelligent Network Selection. In September 2006 he began working on the IST ENTHRONE 2 Project in which his research interests focussed on Caching and CDNs and the project demonstrator work. Throughout this time, Michael was also involved in the second phase of the JANET QoS Development project which studied the practical deployment and operation of QoS on the UK academic network (JANET), its regional networks and University sites.From September 2008 he has been working on the IST EC-GIN Project looking at the networking aspects of Grid computing.
