MaTREx Making Tacit Knowledge in Requirements Explicit
The MaTREx project is investigating techniques for analysing natural language requirements, in order to discover, manage, and mitigate the negative effects of tacit knowledge in requirements. Tacit knowledge is knowledge that we know we have but can't articulate, or knowledge that we don't know that we have but nevertheless use. We rely on tacit knowledge to communicate effectively: we need not make every assumption we hold explicit, allowing us to focus on the essence of what we wish to communicate. The MaTRex Project is a collaboration between the Computing Departments of Lancaster University and The Open University.) and ranked top of EPSRC .

Ensemble Methods for Ontology Learning
OntoLancs is a new framework for ontology learning. OntoLancs, was created for investigating how best to combine individual techniques as ensembles. OntoLancs provides a protocol that enables NLP techniques to be treated as plug-ins. Once integrated, different techniques can be combined using a simple language. OntoLancs also provides support for organizing the discovered concepts into a domain ontology and encoded using the OWL ontology language. If a domain ontology already exists, the results of applying NLP techniques can be compared against it and the techniques performance can be benchmarked. We are using this feature to evaluate the relative performance of different ensembles of NLP techniques in order to guide their application in analysis problems. (PhD Thesis - 2006/2008).
