About the EA-MDE Project

EA-MDE started in October 2009. Since then, we've been speaking to MDE practitioners around the world in order to discover what it is that they do and the experiences they have had doing it. We've carried out a number of early analyses on different aspects of our data and the resulting findings have been presented at various workshop sessions, invited talks and keynotes.

Here is a brief summary of the progress we've made collecting data.

Some of our data will certainly confirm some of the existing views on the use of MDE. Other data will point to more surprising aspects of MDE use in industry. Other data help us to understand that MDE users should not be considered a homogeneous group - and differences in the community should be recognised. For example, asked our questionnaire respondents which types of modeling languages they used. The first chart shows the answers of respondents who completed the questionnaire as a result of a link being hosted on the OMG site and the second chart shows the answers the answers of those who came across the questionnaire by other routes:

Whilst this example may suggest that the modeling community outside of the OMG is open to a wider range of modeling languages, it also supports the notion that for the vast majority of MDE users, UML is a key ingredient of what MDE is.

We are now working on preparing a number of papers and articles which will present our initial findings. We will make information about these available when we can. If you have any specific questions, comments or queries, please feel free to get in touch.
