Step 1: Grow your own food..... You can use it to barter with if things get desperate, and if anyone's right about this, the exchange rate will probably be around one continent to a cabbage. (If you're really worried, you can become a cabbage yourself)
Step 2: Forget about all this email stuff, use carrier pigeon. Not only does the pigeon not care about the year, but it couldn't count that far anyway. Also, it'll probably agree to help you eat all that cabbage that no one else can afford.
