InfoLab21

A NEW HOME
In August 2004 the Computing Department moved into InfoLab21, an initiative by the University "to establish a world class Centre of Excellence for research, development and commercialisation of Information and Communication Technology". This building cost £15 million, and was funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). As well as the Departments of Computing and Communication Systems, it contains a Knowledge Business Centre to promote technology transfer to local and regional industry, especially small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

GRADUATE ACADEMY
A new development underway in InfoLab21 is the Graduate Academy. This aims to provide a career route for our graduates, and operates from the Knowledge Business Centre within InfoLab21. Members of the Academy enrol on a Masters course, and are employed to provide a variety of paid consultancy work for the region. It is hoped that this initiative will also provide work for undergraduate students during the summer vacation.
