Why did you choose your course and what have you gained from it? What was the most exciting or interesting part of it?
I mainly chose the course as it seemed to sound more interesting than the plain vanilla course in most prospectus's. Saying that, I did not envisage the extra work required for it, though I think it was well worth it! The most interesting and exciting part of my course was in first year when the tutor sessions started. It turned out that me and John were the only two people to have started the course from the very beginning so we ended up having sessions with 2 people to one or even two tutors. This made the tutorials much more enjoyable, fun and more focused!
Why did you choose Lancaster University?
I chose Lancaster University because of it's distinct and vibrant atmosphere. The College system has been a big boost to me, as I have made a close knit group of friends from it, which I probably would not have made without it! Also the facilities and teaching staff are top notch!
Were there enough facilities?
The facilities here are quite good. It is useful that the lab facilities are open 24 hours a day and the virtual learning environment is helpful too to check up on lecture notes and assignments that are due.
Did you make lots of friends at Lancaster?
Throughout my time in Lancaster I have made lots and lots of friends. The friendly atmosphere is quite amazing, especially in Freshers week when you bump into random people and just start chatting! I have also developed strong relationships with the people that I have lived with as well. Strong enough that we all chose to live together for the three years I have completed so far anyway!
Can you comment on any work placements or company contact you had?
During the course, we have met many companies, especially in the Innovation modules. It has led to lessons being more interesting, especially knowing that what you are learning applies to the real world.
What are you doing now in your career?
i am carrying on with the course to complete the fourth year and hopefully achieve my Masters! After that, hopefully a decent job with good prospects. Here's hoping!
How has your course influenced your career?
I think that I have realised the amount of prospects that are available to me now. Before I had quite a narrow view of what you can do with a Computer Science Degree, but I have come to learn that it can lead to many exciting and interesting opportunities!
Anything else you would like to mention?
There have been times when I have found the course a little overwhelming, especially at the end of term when multiple assignments and projects are due in in quick succession! I think it is best to remember not to panic, ask friends and tutors for help, and most of all to try to remember to eat and sleep! Though it still gets tight at times, relying on these things has made the course a heck of a lot easier!
