Renos Zannettos
BSc Computer Science

Upper Second Class Honours
I chose the course because I was always fascinated by computers and have been involved with them since the days of the 286 16Mhz processors- I think I was 8 back then! I joined the course as a Part 2 direct entry, as I had previously studied at the Higher Technical Institute (HTI) in Cyprus. Although I had previous experience within the field of Computer Science I have to admit that Lancaster gave me the opportunity to gain knowledge on some very interesting aspects of Computer Science that I was not even familiar with before.
I think the most exciting thing from my 2nd year study was the IBM project, where I was working in a group with 3 other students. This way I learned how to co-operate with others and how to create a schedule and work under a certain amount of pressure. This was particularly helpful as it makes you learn what the working environment will be like when you reach employment, and also it helps with making friends and learning to co-operate with different minded people to yourself.
I chose Lancaster because it is a high ranked university and has a good reputation for its Computing Department. Another factor, although irrelevant to the Computing Department, was that Lancaster isn't an overwhelmingly large City, which I think makes it ideal for people who want to concetrate on studying, and for mature students like myself who need a place where you can find quiet areas. The fact that Lancaster is a big campus where everything a students needs is located in just a 15 minute(at most) walk is also a big plus. The campus is great and promotes interaction with other fellow students as a large percentage of students live on campus.
I have been sent lots of emails with job opportunities but I haven't replied to any of them yet as I am continuing my studies with a Master's degree at Bristol University. I will sure miss Lancaster, although I intend to visit a few times as some of the friends I have made are still studying here.
