Tom Frost
BSc Computer Science

Second Class Honours
Why did you chose your course?
I have always had a passion for computers and at school the only courses we did on this were ICT for GCSE and A-Level, I wanted to do something really challenging, which would give me knowledge on a wide range of topics and give me the qualifications to start my career in the IT industry.
What did you gain from the course?
A great deal of knowledge, on such a wide range of computing related topics. I learnt about programming which I had never done before university, which has given me the confidence and experience to use in my career.
What was the most exciting or interesting part of your course?
I really enjoyed all three years, but I would say the most interesting two topics were the group project in the second year, and also our Final Year project.
Why did you chose Lancaster University?
I chose Lancaster as I had read many good things about it, it had a good reputation for teaching and research. I really liked the idea of the campus university being all based on one site as opposed to being spread out, and also the collegiate system.
Were there enough facilities?
Yes!
Did you make lots of friends at Lancaster?
Yes definately, I still stay in touch with my friends and we are already planning to meet up around Christmas time. Two of my friends live close by so I'll still get to see them often.
What you are doing now in your career?
I have just been offered a position as an ICT Technician in a college near where I live, which I am due to start in 2 weeks. I feel it will give me a great deal of experience and lead on to bigger and better things! I am looking at doing a part time postgraduate course around my job which will make me even further qualified.
How has the course influenced your career?
The course has re-emphasised my passion for computers and strengthened my knowledge, which has given me the boost in starting my career. I want to stay in computers and the IT industry, and hopefully make a name for myself with my qualifications!
I really would encourage all of my friends of family to consider Lancaster University for their studies as the people and the surroundings were so warm and friendly, making it so easy to fit in, make friends, study and have a great time!
