Research themes
Research in the department is organised as a series of closely related themes:- Networked & distributed systems
- Mobile and ubiquitous computing
- Software engineering
- Human-computer interaction
Collectively, these research themes provide comprehensive coverage of the major technologies and techniques underpinning contemporary computer systems (from low level networking aspects to HCI issues).
There is extensive overlap between these themes and new areas of work such as aspect- orientation, peer-to-peer systems and grid computing cut across the boundaries of these areas.
Research labs
The department maintains two large research laboratories:- The Systems Lab incorporates state of the art communications and networking equipment. It includes an industrially- funded Mobile Ipv6 Testbed which provides world class facilities for empirical networking research and which supports our widely recognised implementation of Mobile Ipv6.
- The Advanced Interactions Lab incorporates a video-wall, a hardware workshop, and an advanced teleconferencing system.
