Masters Programmes
The Computing Department at Lancaster is recognised as an international center of excellence in Computer Science research and achieved a rating of 5A in the most recent UK research quality assessment. All members of the faculty are actively engaged in advanced research and this work contributes directly to all aspects of our postgraduate programme.
In these pages we aim to provide you with information on the wealth of postgraduate options available within the department. Flexibility is a key feature of our postgraduate programmes. We offer a range of five taught MSc courses in Advanced Computer Science (from Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing to Critical Software Engineering), in addition to specialized Masters courses in Networking and Internet Systems and in Human Computer Interaction. These courses are complemented by an interdisciplinary course in E-Business and Innovation – and a thriving PhD programme whose graduates have become international research leaders in academia and industry.

This flexibility is coupled with course design and delivery by a team of vibrant and enthusiastic academics, each internationally renowned and specialists in their fields. The ‘block mode’ delivery of courses we adopt ensures you gain maximum benefit from exposure to these academics, through intensive and interactive contact. Furthermore, some modules (such as Advanced Topics in Networking) draw on our international links with partner universities to deliver courses at Lancaster taught by experts from other leading institutions around Europe via our state of the art electronic teaching systems.
When coupled with friendly and approachable staff, a new state of the art teaching space and dedicated computer laboratory we believe we have one of the best postgraduate computer science programmes on offer.

MSc in E-Business and Innovation
A collaborative initiative between the Computing Department and Lancaster University Management School. This multidisciplinary masters degree (MSc) in E-Business and Innovation, provides students with the leading theory and practice required for managing increasing complexity, driven by innovations in information technology (IT) and information and communication technologies (ICT).
MRes in Human Computer Interaction
Studentships are available for October 2008
A collaborative initiative between the Departments of Psychology and Computing for psychology or computer science graduates. It is a response to the increasing prominence of digital information in society and radical changes in the nature of our everyday interaction with such information through interactive devices (e.g. communication and computing systems, vehicular systems, health care support systems, and personal digital assistants).
