InfoLab21
In the summer of 2004 the research facilities and staff of the Computing Department moved to the new InfoLab21 building along with the Department of Communication Systems.
The mission of the lab is to become the premier location for ICT Research and Development in the North-West, building on the already-established international reputations of the Computing Department and Department of Communication Systems. There will be an increased emphasis on development, with the specific intention of creating start-ups and spin-off companies emerging from the work of the Departments and that of existing and future associated industrial partners.
Continuing Professional Development
The Computing Department is committed to providing flexible courses to suit a wide variety of people with different aspirations. The department currently offers a range of advanced courses ranging from one week intense short courses to a flexible Masters programme incorporating five specialised and advanced Masters.

- Business Start-Up Assistance
- Commercial Services
- Corporate Training & Development
- Placement Schemes
Research and Enterprise Services is a new university department specifically created to develop the primary interface between the University and regional businesses, facilitating SME access to the University's academic and technological resources by promoting and co-ordinating the successful implementation of projects using the expertise that Lancaster University can provide to aid SMEs in the North West.
The projects are part of the government's "third mission" which aims to bring universities, businesses and communities together. The ERDF funding has allowed Lancaster University to offer its support to local businesses at little or no cost, and the projects are making a significant difference to local people and local businesses, promoting long-term business growth, forging lasting business relationships and enhancing economic prospects in the region.

Student Employment - Student Skills for Internships and Summer Jobs
The Computing Department actively encourages and is supporting students to gain experience outside their studies by working in industry. Each year the Computing Department has up to sixty undergraduates moving from their second year into their third and final year and many are eager to gain valuable industrial experience. In order for you to get a better idea about the skills you can expect from our students we have compiled a Student Capability list. This list should help companies to learn more about students' capabilities and their suitability for internships and summer jobs.
If you are interested in offering a summer job please consult the Lancaster University Careers Web Site.
