Design and prototyping of novel instrumentation in support of research at Infolab.

Overview of Activities

Design, prototyping and firmware development of embedded hardware in support of various research groups within Computer Science, Infolab21, including:

Ultrasonic positioning platforms for the Relate project.
Touch sensor enabled devices to support several projects within the Human Computer Interaction group.
Ultra Wide Broadband transceiver signal conditioning boards.


Various side projects including:

Radio frequency signal conditioning boards.
Power switching circuitry.
Disability aids.


I maintain equipment in the A30 Hardware Lab and train Researchers in the safe use of tools and soldering equipment.

Matt Oppenheim is a Research Assistant at Lancaster University.

Short Bio

2006 Project Engineer for First Subsea in support of rig mooring operations offshore Angola.
1994-2005 Geophysicist and Instrument Technician in marine seismic survey crews, working in the Far East, West Africa, South America and Europe.
1992-1994 Field Seismologist in a jungle seismic survey crew, Niger Delta.
