For this Infolab 21 post, we are particularly interested in candidates who sit on the boundaries between traditional computer science and the engineering perspectives of communications and networking, who are motivated and excited by their discipline and able to slot into a thriving research culture. Areas of research are not prescribed, but the cross cutting themes of multimedia, sensor networks, security, and optimization would fit well with strengths in the Infolab21 departments. You must have a PhD in Computer Science, Communications Engineering or a closely-related subject and an emerging international reputation for your research.

- ns2 network simulation
- network charging / economics
2. Security and resilience models for critical (network) infrastructures, component based frameworks and intrusion detection, and online monitoring. Experience in thread models, security frameworks and component based models would be desirable.
3. The deployment of test-beds/trials across Europe in order to evaluate the effectiveness of P2P technologies when applied to a variety of services, across a heterogeneous networking infrastructure targeting various user terminals/devices. Studentships
EPSRC Research studentships (PhD)
The Department also has a number of EPSRC Research studentships available for prospective PhD students. These are available to UK or EU residents only. If you are interested in research in the Department and in applying for one of these studentships, please contact our postgraduate secretary.
We also, naturally, welcome applications from overseas students. Please consult the university funding page regarding information on university overseas scholarships ( Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORS), country specific scholarships).
Please contact our postgraduate secretary for more information.
EPSRC Research studentships (MSc)
A number of EPSRC studentships are available for well qualified UK and EU students starting in October 2008 on the Masters Programme in Advanced Computer Science. These grants cover course tuition fees and, in the case of UK students, living costs for the duration of the course. If you are interested in applying for a place on this course, please contact MSc Programme Enquiries.
