About the Computing Department
The Computing Department at Lancaster is recognized as an international centre of excellence in Computer Science research and achieved a rating of 5A in the most recent UK research quality assessment. We have a thriving undergraduate and postgraduate degree programme supported by friendly staff and state of the art facilities.
Part of the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Computing Department at Lancaster is a community of staff and students from the UK, other European Union countries and overseas. Our research and teaching takes an experimental systems approach to the subject - we combine theory, systems building and multidisciplinary work to create the distributed interactive systems of the future. We have extensive external research funding (currently in excess of 10 million pounds) from the EPSRC, the European Commission and industry and our research is used to inform our teaching to provide unique offerings at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. As a Department we also provide research and consultancy services for a wide range of industrial clients.
Lancaster was shortlisted for the Sunday Times University of the Year in 2006, tops the league table of North West Universities according to the Sunday Times University Guide and is the top ranked university in the North West and the joint top ranked University in the whole North of England according to the 2007 National Student Survey.
