Project Description

The main aim of the project was to investigate the role of component technology together with advanced middleware platforms to support the construction of dynamically adaptable distributed cooperative visualisation software. In addition, we investigated the potential of the concept of open bindings, within this framework, to support different styles of adaptation in a highly heterogeneous environment.

The project had the following key objectives:

to demonstrate the effectiveness of component technology and middleware for constructing distributed cooperative visualisation systems,
to develop strategies for the adaptation of such systems in dynamically evolving heterogeneous environments (taking into account network resources, end system resources, the possibility of component migration, and potentially different styles of visualisation),
to validate the approach through a series of application scenarios extracted from experience in the MANICORAL and other applications-based projects,
to feed results of the work into key standards bodies including the OMG.
