2. Existing literature on evaluation

Although CSCW evaluation needs more work, some studies have been performed. So it is worth spending some time looking at what evaluation has been done of CSCW systems in the past. Further, evaluation of computer systems has been carried out in other places, notably under the banners of HCI and Information Systems. Outside computing, there is an extensive body of literature relating to the evaluation of educational and social projects. So this chapter will consider the various useful existing methods, before exploring the problems with these.
