I am a Professor of Sociological Analysis at
the University of Lancaster. I graduated from the University of
Birmingham, where I held my first post. I have also held posts
at the Universities of Exeter, Lund, and currently the Department
of Sociology at Lancaster. I am also Scientific Advisor to the
Work Study Laboratory, University of Karlskrone/Ronneby. I have
written extensively on research methods, in ethnomethodology and,
currently, in the field of computer supported cooperative work.
I have been involved in ethnographic studies of air traffic controllers,
police work, managers, engineers, and retail banking.
My research interests include the philosophy of social research,
ethnomethodology and ethnography, and the social organisation
of work. I resent most sociological theory.
