If you are having problems generating a .gif image file then there is a service which can create them.

The MINSE Project allows two different methods of displaying equations in .gif images.

• Method 1: using the MINSE server interactively
  1. You place an expression in your HTML such as these:

  2. You then prefix the URL with

     http://wheat.uwaterloo.ca/cgi-bin/kryee/nph-pmpm.cgi/

  4. This means every equation generates a call to a server in Canada to display the equation and so relies on the continued stable operation of this server. However it means that changing the equation only requires changing the HTML code.

• Method 2: using the MINSE sever to create a stand-alone .gif
  1. Follow the procedure above or use the online demonstration to create a Web page with the desired equation correctly displayed.

  2. Use the facilities in your browser to save the equation as a .gif file to your Web server file space.
     • Macintosh: click on the equation, hold the mouse button down, choose Save this Image as..., give the file a name and save it to your disk.

     • PC: Hold the ALT key down, click on the equation with the right mouse button, choose Save Image As... and save the image with the filename of your choice.

  3. Link the .gif file into your Web page with a <IMG SRC="equation.gif"> tag.

  4. This approach is better for equations that won't change and generates less trans-Atlantic traffic (and so should be faster).
