To complement the technical sessions, we are arranging a varied recreational and social programme for the conference. This kicks off on the Tuesday evening with an evening reception with drinks and canapés sponsored by Iona Technologies.
On the Wednesday evening, the conference dinner will be held at the Low Wood Hotel. The wine for the dinner is sponsored by Lancaster University's Distributed Multimedia Research Group. Following the dinner we have music from Terry Kennaugh and his band. Terry is an internationally renowned guitarist who has stunning technique and supreme taste. Terry and his band play a wide range of musical styles in the general area of jazz, blues and R&B. They are not to be missed!
On the Thursday evening there is an opportunity to experience the English Lake District. After the close of the technical programme for the day, we will drive down to the village of Bowness at the foot of Lake Windermere and from there take a steamer trip, sponsored by Sony, out on the lake. The views from the boat are spectacular - increasingly so as we sail north towards the higher "fells" (mountains). After 90 minutes or so of sailing (fuelled by complimentary northern English beer, wine and snacks) we will land back at Bowness in time for dinner. Bowness and the adjacent village of Windermere have a large selection of restaurants for you to choose from. Transport will then be available to take us back to the Hotel.
In addition, we will be happy to advise you on the best ways to take in the Lake District if you want to make an extended visit (highly recommended). A social programme for accompanying persons is also available during the conference.
