Middleware'98 is being held at the Low Wood Hotel, situated between Windermere and Ambleside on the shore of Lake Windermere. Special rates have been negotiated with the conference hotel and we strongly recommend you stay there. The demand on accommodation at the Low Wood will be high so we also recommend that you book early. In case you are too late, or if you would like to stay away from the conference, we have provided pointers here to alternative accommodation in the area. We are confident in recommending these hotels as well.

The Low Wood Hotel is the venue for the Middleware '98 conference and offers the convenience of on-site accommodation. Situated on the shore of Lake Windermere with excellent views across the lake to the mountains (fells), the hotel offers 99 bedrooms, all of which have en-suite bathrooms, remote-control satellite television, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, trouser press and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel's leisure club is available to guests, offering a swimming pool, spa, roman baths, squash courts, beauty salon, solarium and fitness studio. There is also a water sports centre attached to the hotel which offers water skiing, canoeing, laser clay shooting and archery.

The rate for bed & breakfast accommodation is 48.50 UKP plus VAT (standard room) or 56 UKP plus VAT (lake view) per room per night. Accompanying persons sharing rooms with conference delegates can stay free of charge; they need only pay for breakfast, available at a cost of 8.50 UKP per day.

Quarry Garth is a secluded country house hotel situated within its own extensive grounds, just fifteen minutes' walk from the conference venue. The hotel offers fourteen pleasantly-furnished rooms, all with en-suite bathroom, colour television and direct dial telephone. There is a comfortable lounge overlooking the attractive gardens and two restaurants offering an imaginative and varied menu which is changed daily.

The rate for bed & breakfast accommodation is 49 UKP to 59 UKP (inc. VAT) per person per night, plus a supplement of 10 UKP per night for single occupancy.

The Langdale Chase Hotel is a striking building located in its own grounds on the shore of Lake Windermere, just ten minutes' walk from the conference venue. It offers superb views of the lake and the surrounding mountains (fells) and the accommodation is comfortable and rich in character. All bedrooms have en-suite bathroom, colour television, radio, telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. In addition to the usual facilities, the hotel offers two lawn tennis courts, a putting green and two 28 foot skipper sailing yachts available for tuition or pleasure trips.

The Ambleside Salutation Hotel is located within the lively village of Ambleside, approximately forty minutes' walk from the conference venue. It offers 36 rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms (four of which have a jacuzzi), colour satellite television, hairdryer and trouser press. There is a pleasant garden lounge linked to the restaurant and a comfortable lounge bar which offers a selection of snacks.

The Waterhead Hotel is situated on the shore of Lake Windermere in Ambleside, overlooking Waterhead Bay. The hotel offers comfortable accommodation, a restaurant, bar and, as a sister establishment of the Low Wood Hotel, unlimited use of the Low Wood leisure club facilities.

The rate for bed & breakfast accommodation is 41 UKP (inc. VAT) per person per night, plus a supplement of 17 UKP per night for single occupancy.

The Wild Boar is situated in the quiet hamlet of Crook, close to Windermere and Kendal, and just six miles from the Middleware'98 conference venue. A country hotel, the Wild Boar dates from the 1800's and is full of character. Open log fires, unusual antiques and individually designed rooms all contribute to its charm. The hotel is perhaps best known, though, for its elegant restaurant.

The rates for bed & breakfast accommodation are 42 UKP (Small Standard), 52 UKP (Standard), 58 UKP (Classic), 70.50 UKP (Four Poster) and 75.50 UKP (Studio Suite) per person per night (inc. VAT). There is a supplement of 20 UKP per night for single occupancy. All rates include membership of the Low Wood Hotel leisure club.

Originally built in early Victorian times, The Belsfield Hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere stands in six acres of beautiful gardens overlooking the lake and the Cumbrian Hills. The hotel has 64 en-suite bedrooms, feature rooms, 2 bedrooms with four posters and 3 suites all with modern comforts and facilities. Other hotel facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, solarium, sauna, snooker room, table tennis and putting green.

The Burnside Hotel is set in extensive gardens in Bowness-on-Windermere with superb views over Lake Windermere. All rooms feature colour television, direct-dial telephone, tea and coffee makers and en-suite bath or shower. The hotel has a wide range of leisure facilities including swimming pool, spa bath, sauna, steam room, badminton court, squash court, trimnasium, full-size snooker tables, solarium, lounge and bar.
